Pub With… was created by husband-and-wife duo, Adam and Astrid, originally from xxxxx and now happily based in Leamington Spa with their 3 motley kids and dog, xxxxxx.
Here Adam shares a bit of the story behind why Pub With… was born.
“It all started on a sunny Sunday. We’d had a long week and were all pretty tired – we didn’t fancy hanging out in a park following the kids around or seeking out an action-packed activity day. We wanted some relaxed family-time, ideally with a pub lunch and a pint on the side!
Thing is, tracking down which pub nearby that had a decent beer garden, kid’s menu and quality food, was near-on impossible.
Google threw up a list of random pubs in the area which worked from a map perspective, but had no real info about the pub itself and what amenities it had to offer. Of course, we could trawl through various websites, or check out reviews on trip advisor, but these were pretty vague too, and not particularly relevant as they weren’t written by people like us.
Why was it so hard to find a decent pub with the three things we knew would make our experience a good one?
If you want a hotel, you can search exactly what you need on booking.com, for a holiday house you’ve got Airbnb, but what unbiased, independent platform do you have that directly focuses on pubs?
It’s not just hard to locate the pubs that deliver the goods, we’re also surrounded by lots of other choices for drinks, food and entertainment. With a Starbucks on every corner, it can feel easier to meet friends there - plus you know kids are always welcome too. Even easier than that is the option to stay at home, watch a film and dial in a Deliveroo.
This is the reason Astrid and I felt more determined than ever to find a solution to the problem.
As a family, some of our best days out have been in the pub. We’ve laughed, played cards, and had proper conversations. Something we know wouldn’t happen if we’re at home all off doing our own thing in different rooms.
And it’s not just about family time. I’m a massive fan of a pint (or two) with the lads after a morning of cycling or hockey. It can make the weekend, shooting the breeze in the pub, maybe over a bowl of chips!
Astrid and I stumbled upon a great pub the other day when we were out walking the dog, to find it dishes up a delicious breakfast, offers an array of Sunday papers to flick through and serves excellent barista coffee. The thing is, if we’d known sooner, we’d have started going there a long time ago – and told our friends about it too.
These are just a few of the reasons why we think pubs need to be given a platform to let potential customers know exactly what they can offer them. And why people should be given choices and a simple way to make their pub experience the best it can be.
Everybody’s version of what makes a great pub is different. Some of my mates love an old-school boozer while some love finding the latest bar with the coolest cocktail list. What we’re trying to do is give people the choice and tools to give them the best experience when they go to the pub. What you want on Tuesday afternoon, is probably different from what you’re seeking for Friday night – and that’s where we can help!
IPA for me, draughts for the kids, water for the dog and pizza on the menu = pub perfection. Simple but true!
Since the seed of Pub With… was planted, we’ve been ecstatic with the response we’ve had. From the breweries and lovely pubs we’ve spoken with, to all the people we’ve shared our ideas with. There’s a hunger for exactly what we’re offering, and we can’t wait to fill the gap.
We’d love to hear from you on what else we can do with Pub With… to make it even better. We’re just people who love a pub wanting to help people have a great time at the pub.
